It’s been while since I wrote here, I know.

I moved from the hustle and bustle of the city of Los Angeles to a small town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I thought I’d take this place by storm, but it turns out the other way around. This is a leisurely place. Life moves on, but at it’s own pace.

One of the first things I did when I got here was shop for high-speed internet service. I called AT&T, Verizon, and a few others. Know what I ended up with? Goldrush World Access. Pure local. And the service is better, faster and more reliable than I ever had “down there.”

I go to shops here, and people call me by name. If they don’t know me, they ask about me. When they find out I just moved here, they embrace me. Some of that is figurative, but I’ve actually been hugged by a couple of ladies

I’ve been offline since late August, 2008. I moved from my home in Southern California to a new home in Central California. For me, it’s been quite a change. I apologize if this blog hasn’t been updated in the last month or so.

The move itself was horrendous. From a 4-bedroom house to a 2-bedroom double-wide is quite an adjustment. But I love it. The air up here is so clean and pure, the people so friendly and trusting… well, I think you know what I mean.

But things move so much more slowly here. People are NOT in a rush to get anything done. For example, I needed a new phone jack installed in a room. AT&T took a week to get here. That’s not “AT&T’s fault. It was a scheduling thing. But down in the city, you could expect things to be set up the same day. Not here.

I love it.

It has taken me nearly a month to get back on line. Yes. I could have been back on in a day or two,k but I wanted Cable Internet — something I’ve never had. Comcast took a week. But it was worth the wait!!

So, here I am. I’m already looking for new products to offer (mostly free, hopefully). I’ve reserved a new domain name just for free stuff, and if you pay attention here, you’ll be the first to know about it. But, for Pete’s sake, please know that the products I offer that might cost a pittance or two, I really believe in them. I use them. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t recommend them. Thats just the way I work.

So I hope you’ll keep coming back and checking things out. I’m not one of those “Internet Marketer” types (I’m as sick of them as you are).

In all honesty, I’ve used and recommended a couple of programs for a long time that I actually prefer. For cleaning and optimizing my computer, I’ve always trusted SpeedUpMyPC, and for anything having to do with cleaning my registry, I’ve always used RegistryBooster. Nothing I’ve found makes me feel better about getting the job done.

However, this free program has been gaining notice lately, and I’ve been testing it. It just might fit the needs of many out there, and I’m giving it some press.

There are, however, a couple of other pretty darn good, and free, disk defragmentation softwares available that would be remiss if I didn’t bring them to your attention. I have tried both of them, and it’s my opinion that any of the three can help significantly improve your computer’s speed and overall performance. All three are superior to the built-in Windows Defragmenter.

The first is called UltimateDefrag. This video gives a pretty good overview. It’s excellent for a no-cost program. This video actually demonstrates two different defragmenters. The second is one I have NOT tried. Since it involves installation of a screensaver, and works when the mouse is left idle for a period of time, it doesn’t seem like something I would use. But it is another choice, of course.

Another very good defragmenter is by Auslogics. I have used it in the past. It does an admirable job, again for a no-cost program.

Download and install any one, or all three of these programs. Try them and see which best suits your needs. Anyway you look at it, though, defragmenting your hard drive is an essential habit to get into.
